"Forerunners in the enhancement of the components of national culture, architects are aware of the need to raise identity as well as civilizational and cultural trends," El Otmani said at the opening of the 35th National Architect Day, held by the Ministry of National Territorial Planning, Housing and City Policy and the National Council of the Order of Architects.
Architects can contribute to the development, enhancement, and preservation of the architectural heritage of the Kingdom, especially in the Southern Provinces which have a culture and traditions rooted in history, he underlined.
It is essential to develop initiatives and actions to increase the contribution of architects in terms of achieving the goals of the Kingdom's development project, El Otmani observed.
In that regard, he stressed that the new development model for the Southern Provinces, launched by HM King Mohammed VI five years ago, reinforces the various aspects of Moroccan culture and the integrated vision that must be architect-oriented.
On this occasion, El Otmani called on the National Order of Architects to accompany efforts aimed at supporting the outreach of the Southern Provinces as a pole of Moroccan-African relations in economic, civilizational and cultural fields.
Held this year under the theme "Post-Covid Territorial Development: Case of the City of Dakhla," the National Architect Day is an opportunity to highlight the role of architects in the act of building but also to recall their participation in territorial development through conferences, workshops and debates.
It also aims to develop a roadmap outlining the medium and long-term contours of the city of Dakhla as an international and African destination.
The event was attended by Minister of National Territorial Planning, Housing and City Policy, Nouzha Bouchareb, the Wali of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, Governor of the province of Oued Eddahab, Lamine Benomar, and President of the Regional Council, El Khattat Yanja in addition to elected officials and national and international experts.
