Secretary General of the Department of Energy and Mining Mohamed Ghazali and the Director General of the Solar Energy and New Energy Research Institute (IRESEN) led the Moroccan delegation to this edition, which took place by teleconference and was hosted by Saudi Arabia.
This virtual edition was attended by more than 40 ministers and heads of delegation who reaffirmed the low-carbon importance and opportunities for their respective economies, as part of the post-Covid 19 recovery, said the ministry of Energy, Mining and Environment in a press release.
On this occasion, HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman Al Saud, Minister of Energy of Saudi Arabia, welcomed the positive dynamics of the Alliance's members, quadrupling the budget allocated to innovation in the field of clean technologies, which reached 4.9 billion dollars.
Speaking on this occasion, Secretary General of the Department of Energy and Mining Mohamed Ghazali reaffirmed, on behalf of the Minister of Energy, Mining and Environment, Morocco's commitment to supporting this initiative which is at the heart of the priorities of the national energy strategy.
To this end, the official recalled the Kingdom's adherence to this alliance for several years, highlighting the Kingdom's energy transition based on renewable energy, notably through the establishment of solar and wind power plants and a research and innovation ecosystem.
Thus, a network of collaborative research and innovation platforms has been set up to support the acceleration of innovation and the industrialization of technologies, he noted, adding that the Kingdom is keen to share its expertise and to collaborate on an international level, in order to step up energy transition, by developing new sectors with high potential such as green hydrogen, Power to X and biomass.
He also announced that the Kingdom will be honored to host the 7th edition of this ministerial meeting for the first time in Africa.
