In an analysis entitled "The Libyan Crisis and the Skhirat Agreement", CPLATAM noted that the Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio, expressed, recently during a telephone call with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, "the appreciation" of Rome with regard to the contribution and the role played by Morocco for the resolution of the Libyan crisis.
The author of the analysis, Clara Riveros, president of CPLATAM, added that the Kingdom has repeatedly insisted that only a national inter-Libyan agreemet is capable of solving the crisis in that country.
Riveros recalled in this regard the 33rd summit of the African Union (AU) during which Morocco reiterated the need for a political and peaceful settlement of the Libyan crisis in accordance with the Skhirat Agreement of 2015 and affirmed that the stalemate can only be overcome by the Libyans themselves.
In addition, the Colombian analyst indicated that the president of the Libyan High Council of State, Khaled Al Mechri, reiterated, last March in Rabat, that the Skhirat Agreement constitutes "the political reference" for all Libyan institutions trying to put in place the necessary mechanisms for the Libyans to reach a solution.
Riveros, who quoted the Italian media outlet Il Giornale, noted that Morocco could give new impetus to the Skhirat agreement by organizing a new meeting "Skhirat II" to promote dialogue between the different Libyan parties.
