Eleven new deaths from coronavirus complications were reported over the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 80, while ten other people have recovered which rises to 81 the total number of recoveries, Director of epidemiology at the ministry of Health, Mohamed El Youbi, pointed out in a statement broadcast by MAP on its M24 channel and RIM radio.
According to El Youbi, 3,984 suspected cases were excluded following negative tests.
The fact that covid-19 cases have increased over the past few days and exceeded the 1,000 mark is explained by the presence of epidemic foci, particularly within families, he said, noting that all members of some families have been diagnosed with coronavirus.
The increase is also due to the growing rise in the number of people who were infected by confirmed cases, he said, adding that 230 cases have been confirmed out of a total of 7,963 people who had contacts with confirmed cases.
In this regard, El Youbi underlined the need to "scrupulously observe precautionary measures, particularly at home, in order to stop the spread of the disease", while stressing the importance of implementing reinforced measures for people who leave their homes to go to work or go shopping.
"In accordance with the recent recommendation of the World Health Organization, we recommend wearing masks for people leaving their homes and taking more precuations", El Youbi pointed out.
