Two suspects were busted in Laayoune while the third one was arrested in Guelmim, national police (DGSN) said in a statement, adding that search operations led to the seizure of equipment used in the organization of illegal immigration operations, including two inflatable boats, 1,005 liters of fuel and a life jacket, in addition to a large sum of money in national currency suspected of coming from this illegal activity.
Investigations revealed that the members of this criminal network were preparing an illegal immigration attempt from the southern Moroccan coasts towards the Canary Islands, the source pointed out, noting that the people arrested have connections at the national level after the identification of their supplier with boats used in illegal migration operations, namely another criminal network active in a city in the north of the Kingdom.
The three suspects were taken into custody pending the investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor's office in order to highlight the ramifications of this network and arrest all the people involved in these criminal activities, the statement said.
