In a statement on the occasion of Palestinian Prisoners Day on 17 April, the League held the occupying authorities fully and directly responsible for the lives of Palestinian prisoners, stressing the need for urgent and pressing international action to compel the occupying authorities to respect the rules of international law, including the Fourth Geneva Convention, which calls for the rights of detainees during the spread of epidemics.
The commemoration of Prisoners Day this year, the League added, comes at a time when the coronavirus is spreading and threatening the peoples of humanity, and all international efforts and means are being deployed to counter it, including precautionary measures, deploring the fact that the occupying authorities are ignoring this new threat to the lives of prisoners and continuing their policies of systematic violation against them.
