In a press statement on the occasion of a visit to the Haut Atlas Collegiate High School in the commune of Asni (Al Haouz province), accompanied by Minister of National Education, Preschool Learning and Sports , Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah and Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Kristalina Georgieva, Banga said he was "very impressed" by the strong mobilization and the manner in which Morocco, under the leadership of HM the King, managed the repercussions of this earthquake to ensure the reconstruction of the affected areas.
Banga also expressed his admiration for the school units built in advance, in collaboration with the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, the Ministry of Equipment and Water and pioneering citizens corporates, and with the support of the OCP Foundation.
"This unit represents a magnificent example. It was completely destroyed and in the space of ten days, it reopened its doors", he said, describing the meeting between these learners and their teachers as "very impressive. The passion for learning in their eyes is very important".
Banga added that the World Bank "is very active in the field of education in Morocco and remains ready to ensure this active presence in the future", explaining that "we are active with the Ministry of Education not only in terms of classrooms and teaching, but also the equipment needed for courses and other areas".
He also expressed the World Bank's determination to further strengthen cooperation with Morocco in the field of education at all levels.
Banga also stressed the importance of girls' schooling in order to increase women's access to the job market, and thus achieve a more developed economy.
During the visit, which coincided with the annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Marrakech (October 9-15), the delegation followed a course presented in the unit, which has been set up to accommodate students from the Haut Atlas Collegiate High School.
