In a clarification issued in response to a press release attributed to the family of detainee M.Z. and a filmed statement by his son and his lawyer, the local Al Arjat 1 prison administration stresses that the detainee presented, on Friday morning, a handwritten notice in which he announced the end of the hunger strike he had begun on Thursday. "The detainee received his meal and asked the official to reheat it before eating it,” added the same source.
While the inmate was being visited by his lawyer and his son, the latter reprimanded his father and shouted at him, urging him to reverse his decision to suspend the hunger strike, which is contrary to his allegations and to the statement attributed to the detainee's family, explained the clarification.
With regard to the denial of the incident that occurred the previous day, when the inmate threw his breakfast tray at the officer in charge of meal distribution, the institution administration said that these facts took place under the video surveillance cameras placed inside the prison, and that they were the subject of correspondence with the relevant judicial authorities, said the same source.
The prison administration concludes that the actions of the inmate's son and lawyer are nothing more than a vain attempt to victimize the inmate through this blatant staging.
