18th Mawazine Festival: Moroccan Music in All its Facets on the Salé Stage

09 mai 2019 Printable Version
Rabat - The 18th edition of the Mawazine Festival -Rhythms of the World will offer from June 21st to June 29th nine beautiful evenings on the Salé stage, the event's organizer 'Maroc Cultures Association' has announced.

As every year, the festival reserves more than half of its programming to Moroccan artists. With two concerts a night, the Salé stage will see the participation of the greatest names in Chaabi, Amazigh, Rai, Gnaoua and Fusion music, as well as talented artists representing the Kingdom’s latest musical trends.

The opening night on the Salé stage promises to be festive with the sounds of Moroccan chaâbi music. On Friday, June 21st, the public will get to see singer Zahira Rbatia followed by the singer and violinist from Casablanca, Mustapha Bourgogne, one of the most beloved artists of Chaabi music.

On Saturday, June 22nd, the Salé stage will shine under the rhythms of music from the Rif and Reggada with Rabeh Mariwazi’s. This disciple of great masters such as Sallam Rifi and Mokhtar El Berkani, has released many popular albums and performs in Morocco and abroad.

The audience will then meet up with rising star Zouhair Bahaoui. This young prodigy from Tetouan became known in 2016 with the single Tsala Liya Solde which attracted more than 30 million views on YouTube.

The evening of Sunday, June 23rd will propose two big names of Moroccan music. First with the singer and talented guitarist Jbara, who will present a rich repertoire mixing Amazigh, Andalusian, rai, gnaoua, reggae, flamenco, rock and soul sounds. Then with the Sahrawi diva Saida Charaf, whose talent and voice leave no one indifferent.

On Monday, June 24th, the Salé stage will present the singer Titrit whose real name is Saïda Akil, is considered among the first women who have tried, with great success, to modernize Amazigh music.

Festival-goers will get to celebrate the night with the highly anticipated Reda Taliani. Big star of Rai music, this Algerian artist with multiple successes was revealed in 2004 thanks to the hit song Joséphine. Combining chaabi, rai and modern sounds, his titles carry strong messages that address youth from the Maghreb.

On Tuesday, June 25th, Raissa Aicha Tachinwit will offer the public a unique show of Amazigh dance and singing, followed by Moroccan singer YouNess. This young artist has been very successful for more than 3 years. His latest single I Love You has reached more than 50 million views on YouTube.

The evening of Wednesday, June 26th will be animated by two talents of the current Moroccan music: Manal, the young singer from Marrakech and the Moroccan rapper 7ari. Manal stands out today as a figure of pop and Moroccan trap, she has been very popular with songs such as Slay and Pas le Choix. As for 7ari, he embodies a new generation of ultra-connected Moroccan rappers.
This native of Rabat is both a rapper, singer of Rnb Pop / Alternative Rock and a guitarist. In 2012 he released his first single Ma3ndkom Madiro, he then produced several songs such as L’Oseille, Choukran and his latest Amigos and 3aym.

The concert will continue with the flows of Lbenj, the rap artist from Casablanca. Lbenj presents a very rich repertoire and has collaborated with many artists such as Mr Crazy, 7liwa, Lferda and Ali Ssamid. After his first album Galaxy released in 2017, Lbenj unveiled in 2018 the Noir et Blanc hit which has attracted more than 2.5 million views on YouTube. He just launched his new album Milliard last March.

Fans of Gnaoua music will get to see Maalem Hamid El Kasri & Guests on Thursday June 27th. One of the most anticipated and sought-after Maalems, El Kasri, reconciles the Gnaoua rhythms of North and South Morocco and has the ability to merge, with ease, multiple musical styles. Renowned for his deep and unique voice, El Kasri will offer a concert that will see the participation of several surprise guests.

The Salé stage will then host the famous Marrakchi trio Fnaire. With a career of almost 18 years, this group is inspired by hip-hop and remains very faithful to its Moroccan roots. The group has had several hits, including the recent Dilbar, produced in collaboration with Canadian-Moroccan singer Nora Fatehi. The song drew more than 2.4 million views in less than 24 hours.
Friday, June 28th will be festive. Place to Chaabi music and Aita, with singer Ikram El Abdia in the first part of the evening, followed by the very popular violinist and singer Abdellah Daoudi.
For the closing night, Mawazine is booking two exceptional concerts. The audience will dance to the rhythms of singer Hamid El Mardi, before giving way to one of the biggest stars of Moroccan chaâbi Zina Daoudia.

The 18th Mawazine Festival will be held from June 21st to 29th under the high patronage of HM King Mohammed VI.

Established in 2001, the Mawazine Festival Rhythms of the World is the essential rendezvous for music amateurs in Morocco. With over 2.5 million festivalgoers for each of its last editions, it is considered the second largest cultural event in the world.
